Easter's on its way!

Contrary to our belief, guess what, Easter is not necessarily a Christian tradition. It has so many pagan history and meanings. Even the name came from mythical godesses. According to a certain 8th century English scholar (St. Bede), it came from the Scandinavian Ostra and Teutonic Ostern or Eastre. What the hell is Teutonic? Anyway, these godesses are symbols of fertility and spring, not at all Catholic. Easter isn't ours and ours alone. Apparently the whole world celebrates it for spring. And again I feel utterly disappointed because we do not have the famous 4 seasons. Why, oh, why! I want winter, I want spring, I want leaves falling and I want a real summer. Somehow I think our summer is fake, just a time to get off school. Oh boy, help me. It is so unfair, the law of nature is never fair and it so happens we're the butt of the cigarette when it comes to seasons. I don't care about the tropical forests and the beaches, I can not really appreciate them fully because I'm not there. I'm here and I don't see the forests and beaches. I want the 4 seasons.

Moving on, have you ever wondered why the rabbit is the rabbit and why the eggs are the eggs? I've never seen the, let's say, Christian importance of the rabbit and eggs. I just found out that it's not at all related to Christianity. Silly. The rabbit is the symbol of fertility, though I have no idea how so, and the egg (brightly colored!), symbolizes the bright sunlight and color of spring. That doesn't explain the eggs.

Christian-wise, the Easter is said to be related to the Jewish passover. Huh? Isn't Easter the rising of Jesus? And what is passover again? AH, no no, I'm wrong. I was thinking of the last supper. What the hell is the Passover? And oh yeah, for those who live near the place where the New Tradition and those who live the practices of the old religion, they celebrate Easter according to the date of the Passover.

Well, anyway, ever wonder why we have different dates for Holy Week and Easter? Easter is the first Sunday following the Full Moon or Spring Equinox (March 21) for the Westerners. And the Filipinos, being born with the I-Love-The-West attitude, followed them. Them and their colonies, God help us. =)) Those colonizers think they're all that and they can colonize lands just because they want to. They think that they are superior over everyone and their shallow minds punish anyone who thinks better than they do. (Err, I was watching Pocahontas--spelling?) Why are they allowed to do whatever they want anyway? I hate them. Nah, I don't really hate the Westerners. I hate them who lived in the 15th-19th century, the British I think? But now it's the Americans. Damn them, curse them. Their government, rather.

Oh, oh! I now know why it's the egg. It's the symbol of fertility and new life. New life, yes, that's it. (I'm watching The Prince and Me, wala lang, oh boy the Prince is hot. I don't hate the Westerners for producing oogle-worthy babies. Oh yeaaah. New Life :p) Oh, here's a trivia, Easter eggs are supposed to be exchange by lovers and romantic admirers, like Valentines. And in the medieval times (Prince ulit! The prince is soooo lovely. I'm in love with the priiiiiiince!) they give the eggs to the servants. They have red eggs (Christ's blood in Greece), Green plant-decorated eggs are done in Austria. They use real fern. Pysanki eggs are works of art, with beeswax and everything else. For the Philippines, ours are plastic. (Hahaha!) Oh, no, not just ordinary plastic! Ours can be divided in half. Very original. ;p

Easter Bunnies. Are. Edible. According to Germans anyway. Thankfully they're not real hopping bunnies, they're made of pastry and sugar. They brought it to America as Children's greatest pleasure. And the children built nets for the bunnies.

Lent is done, no more fasting. I realized I never did succeed on fasting. :>
